Autism Spectrum Disorder Caregiver Journey

Context: Fortune 50 health Insurer, 2021-2022

Role: Research Lead


Overview:

Parents / caregivers of children on the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) experience face significant medical strain:

  • 1.4x more likely to have a chronic medical diagnosis

  • $46 Per Member Per Month greater medical costs

  • 30% more likely to utilize ER for care

However, they also are more likely to be connected to the medical system:

  • 1.1% more connected to preventative care

  • 1.5x likely to utilize behavioral outpatient treatment

As the UX Research lead for a Fortune 50 health Insurer, I identified a powerful design intervention point:

HMW utilize predictive analytics to provide families with a likely ASD diagnosis earlier access to resources to reduce overall claims data (ER Utilization, etc) and get them access to resources sooner?

Multi-modal Research Project

• Began with 1:1 Qualitative interviewing and moderated concept testing
